Veterans Day

Veterans Day

For the past two years, I’ve had a post commemorating Veterans Day. In 2008, the post gave a history of Veterans Day. In 2009, I wrote of Veterans Day in conjunction with the tragedy at Fort Hood. This year, I’m a day late because of a bit too much travel this week. It’s important every year for all of us — employers, employees, citizens — to remember the fallen and all veterans on this day.

To help us remember, I have selected a few relatively famous speeches given on Veterans Day. These speeches approach this day from different vantage points, and they are all worth reading. Each speech honors our veterans. Their differences provoke thought and produce pride on this important day while our country is involved in two wars in which men and women continue to give their lives in service to our country.

So, here they are: General Douglas MacArthur; President Ronald Reagan; former Secretary of State, General Colin Powell; former U.S. Senator, Max Cleland (also Administrator of Veterans Affairs); and President John Kennedy.

A day late, I join with these speech makers and all Americans in paying tribute to our veterans.
