Changed Forever — Tip of the Week
Much has been written about how the great recession has changed things forever. Those over 50 and unemployed may never work again. Consumerism will never be the same. Home ownership as the primary means of saving and investing is history. Today’s children won’t have nearly as good a life as we’ve had. The workplace will never again provide security and a reasonable living for most people.
It actually would be a good thing if the workplace permanently changes. Think of some tips to make the workplace different — but better.
Be sincere about employees being an employer’s greatest asset. Hire only those supervisors who are also sincere about this philosophy. Make employees successful. Treat all employees with respect. Fire unproductive or misbehaving employees when they can’t or won’t change. Involve all employees at every level in solving problems and creating opportunities. Lead by making sacrifices. Be calm in times of trouble. Narrow the compensation disparity among all levels of employees. Put people ahead of profit.
Some will disagree with my tips. Some will say the tips are naive. Some will mock their idealism. Some will demand that I get a psychiatric exam. That’s okay. I’m sticking with them. A lot of things do need to change forever.
