Wooden Words — Tip of the Week
Much has been written about John Wooden in the last few days. The legendary coach died on June 4, 2010, at the age of 99. Among other publications, the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times provide biographies of a man whose lessons as teacher-coach have been used in all walks of life, not just basketball or athletics. There’s no lesson I can draw from his life or his teachings that hasn’t already been articulated. And besides, the words of Wooden himself are more important. They offer tips for this week and every week. Some have said that his “Pyramid of Success” provides all one needs to know, no matter the job. That may be an overstatement, but the incorporation of his 15 building blocks would undoubtedly make every workplace, every executive, every manager, every employee better.
