Nineteen — HR Song of the Week

Taylor Hicks sings this week’s song. It’s a bit different, but it’s definitely about work — military work. Nineteen was the number he wore on his jersey in high school. It was also his age when he went to war for our country. It’s unlikely that his previous work at a grocery store prepared him for his military work, but what work done as a teenager could prepare one for work in a war zone? Let us not forget the work of our military men and women. It is the ultimate kind of work, and sometimes, it takes one as far as he can go.

  1. What a beautiful, moving song. Sure to make you stop and think about all the young lives that have been lost for our Country. I’m sure we all have know a “boy next door.”

Taylor does a wonderful job with this song – it should be his next single – sure to be a hit!

  2. Great song – Country Radio should pick this one up, especially with Memorial Day and 4th of July right around the corner.

  3. This is a very moving song. It makes the statistics you hear about the war become human. Taylor Hicks brings a very touching interpretation to the song.

  4. This is such a sad and moving song. Very heartfelt. Thank You!

  5. Thanks, John, for bringing this song by Taylor Hicks to light for those who have not heard it. It’s the kind of honest, human song you just don’t hear enough of. Thanks again. Cool website you have, by the way.

  6. Love this song as only Taylor can sing it with such feeling.

If Taylor’s version had been played on the radio, I believe it would have been a hit!

    Thank you!

  7. Thanks for relating this touching song to the world of work. It’s the ultimate sacrifice that our service men and women face each day at ‘work’. Taylor sings this song at his live concerts and always dedicates it to our brave men and women. Thanks for selecting it. I think Taylor would be proud to know his song touched so many lives.

  8. Judy Morton says:

John, Thank you for highlighting Taylor’s song, Nineteen. Taylor always sings with passion and this song is definitely one “for the vault”.

  9. Thanks for playing this song. It deserves to be on country radio or any OTHER radio station. When Taylor sings it live there’s been glow sticks and flags waved while he sang it. He’s always been a big supporter of our troops and acknowledges their sacrifices.

  10. What a nice surprise finding “Nineteen” by Mr. Hicks as the focus of your Song of the Week.

We should never forget those who have served their country to preserve the freedoms “gifted” to us by our forefathers.

I would love to hear this version of “Nineteen” played during tributes to our troops.

  11. I have always loved Taylor’s heart felt rendition of this song. On one of his recent tour gigs he had Jeff Lopez play Dixie at the end with a flute. You could have heard a pin drop and at the finish. Then an explosion from the audience as they showed their appreciation. It drowned out everything else.Wonderful!

  12. Melissa says:

Oh how sad. It reminds me of a young boy who worked for my husband’s company last summer. I heard he was shipping out in June. He was a local football star in high school. I hope he has a safe return.

  13. Allison says:

I love this song!Taylor does a great job on it.I hope country radio plays it.

  14. Very sad song. I’m glad Taylor Hicks sang this song. Why is it not on the radio?

  15. Carole, why this song, or any of Taylor’s songs, are not on the radio is the $64,000 question. This song, What’s Right is Right, Seven Mile Breakdown and, my all time favorite of Taylor’s — Maybe You Should, I believe would all do well on the radio. These wonderful songs are not being heard and IMO are as good as any of the best out there.

    I love Nineteen.

  16. Wow, Taylor Hicks should release this song as a single. It’s great, very touching and heartfelt. It should do well on country radio, where the listeners are very patriotic and pro-troops.

  17. The radio stations for some reason don’t play Taylor-even when his fans have requested it. His latest CD “The Distance” from which this song is taken has several radio playable songs. I have requested SEVERAL tunes be played-the DJ’s all say “We’ll do it” then they never do.

  18. Nineteen is such a moving song. I know of no other artist who could have ‘told the story’ as Taylor has. He holds such admiration for the military & is one of the first to step forward in support of our troops. Sadly, many people are missing out on such a talented; as well as respectable artist. Love this song♥

  19. Lubiana says:

Beautiful song! And he sings it with such feeling.

Thanks for sharing this song with your listeners. I feel the words speak to the parents, friends and family members of our beautiful and brave military men and women.

Kudos for the selection and the spotlight on a song by a talented singer and writers.
