Memorial Day
On Memorial Day, we honor all members of the armed forces who have died for our country. While no words are sufficient for such a memorial, I’ve tried to do a post on Memorial Day during the time I’ve been blogging. For my two previous posts, click here and here. Most of us, employers and employees alike, tend to think holiday when this day approaches. That’s okay, but it’s important to take a few moments to remember the day for what it is.
Since 1948, the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Regiment, known as the Old Guard, has placed an American flag, one foot and centered, in front of every grave at Arlington National Cemetery. This tradition, known as Flags-in, has already occurred this year, and the flags will remain through the three-day Memorial Day weekend. Members of the Old Guard patrol the cemetery until the flags are removed, this year on June 1. They stand guard to make sure that each flag remains in place to honor the hundreds of thousands who are buried at Arlington, just as those dead once stood guard for our country.
