Secrets of Health Care Reform Continued

A previous post summarizes one of the relatively unknown provisions of the recently enacted health care reform legislation. As noted in that post, there will be other discoveries of provisions that received little attention during the tortured health care debate in Congress. It’s interesting that members of Congress kept talking about how enormous the legislation was (over 2,000 pages) but kept talking about very few provisions.

Another so-called secret (at least, for most folks) is various new whistleblower protections contained in the legislation. There’s a provision that adds health care worker whistleblower protections to the Fair Labor Standards Act. There’s another provision that adds protections for employees of federally funded long-term care facilities. There’s yet another provision that strengthens whistleblower protections under the False Claims Act.

For summaries of these new provisions, see today’s workplace, Whistleblower Law Blog, Government Accountability Project, and PointRight.
