Health Care Reform Says Bite Me
It’s no secret that the debate over health care reform has become quite contentious. Groups on both sides of the issue are organizing protests and rallies. For the most part, they’ve devolved into shouting matches.
Last night’s speech by President Obama was designed to argue for his plan. It was also designed to encourage interested parties to stop shouting and start talking about solutions. We’ll see how his speech plays out in that regard within the next few days and weeks.
In California, a recent rally of health care reform proponents took a different twist. A 65-year-old man stopped by to see what the commotion was about. In addition to shouting, pushing and shoving started, and the older passer-by unfortunately fell into the middle of it. A health care reform supporter bit off the tip of one of the 65-year-old’s fingers, resulting in the need for him to seek health care.
Health care reform is an understandably emotional and divisive issue. But, I mean, really. As to the 65-year-old biting victim, not to worry. He was covered by Medicare.
