Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson — Tip of the Week
I was saddened by the recent deaths of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. I didn’t know them, of course, but all three were part of most of my life. McMahon made Johnny Carson even better. Fawcett made shaving cream, detective work and just about anything else more beautiful. Jackson’s marvelous talent made all of us sing and dance.
As enormous as their stardom was, they were, as it turns out, like all the rest of us. They were flawed. They suffered tragedy. They were burdened with a variety of problems. No amount of money could drive out their demons or make them content.
Like them, we enjoy success and failure. We do good work and poor work. We try to make comebacks. We make brilliant decisions and dreadful decisions. Fawcett and Jackson died too early. Given McMahon’s circumstances, he died too late. We’re still kicking, at least sort of.
As I’ve thought about them these past few days, I’ve wondered what they would have done differently, which has made me wonder what I will do differently. I can’t change the past. I have no control over the future. In the present, I can do quite a few things to become a better employer, employee, coworker, friend.
This week’s tip? Look around. Learn from the famous and the not-so-famous. Put those lessons to good use — for you and everyone you know. Live in the present as best you can.

GREAT TIP JOHN!
(IN MEMORY OF BILLY MAYS I’M TYPING IN ALL CAPS!)
ACU Frank,
I can’t quite put Billy Mays into the McMahon, Fawcett and Jackson category, but the King of the Infomercial deserves recognition. Thanks for giving him some.
John
