Guns at Work

The Washington Post reports that on March 3, an employee of a Starbucks coffee shop in the DC area was wounded by a gun — his own. The employee was hit in the right leg when his handgun discharged accidentally. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and charged with carrying a pistol without a license. It’s not known whether Starbucks has any type of policy on weapons at work.

As noted in a recent post, state legislatures are considering all kinds of legislation that would allow individuals to carry guns in all kinds of places previously off-limits for gun possession, and gun rights groups are advocating that teachers and students arm themselves to prevent another Virginia Tech. With the Supreme Court’s recent decision on who can and can’t possess a gun, this already volatile issue is bound to heat up.

Employers, whether schools, coffee shops or manufacturers, should have the right to control weapons in their own workplace. Until recently, there’s been no question about that right. Now, who knows? If a large number of employees end up having the right to bring guns to work, it’s my guess that a lot of them will shoot themselves in the leg.

  1. Always good quality info from this site!

  2. Can not say that I can argue with this post at all.

  3. With this current congress and president you better get all your gun licenses ASAP before they take all our rights away.
