Finding Talent in Hard Times
The New York Times has an article that you might not expect to see during these times of hiring freezes, mass layoffs, pay cuts, and business closures. It’s about “talent scouts” who continue to look for good talent in all kinds of businesses and who think that hard times often produce good, often overlooked talent. They say you can’t ensure enduring success unless you’re always out there finding and hiring the best people.
I recommend you read the entire article, as it may give you ideas that will help you do something that many employers have stopped doing: hiring. Here’s some of their advice. Take chances on passionate people early in their work lives. Focus on what can go right. Offer rewards no one else can match. Look for candidates not on most radars. Hire talent that fits with your future. Find flexible, panoramic thinkers. Look for people with a view toward high future salaries, not high present salaries.
