Eliot and Chesterton on the New Year

I couldn’t decide between two New Year’s quotes that I thought particularly appropriate for transitioning from 2008 to 2009. So, let’s go with both.

First, T. S. Eliot:

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice.”

Second, G. K. Chesterton:

“The object of a new year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul.”

  1. Both are great. Happy New Year.

  2. John Phillips says:

Happy New Year to you. Keep up the good work.

  3. Marvelous stuff.

An old Irish toast: “May the happiest day of your past be the worst day of your future.”

  4. John Phillips says:

    Michael,

    Thanks very much.

Thanks for the Irish toast, and I wish you the best in ’09.

    Keep up the good work.

    John
