Edison on Work–Part I

Thomas Edison is remembered for his many inventions.  Edison was also a businessman.  One of his most significant business innovations was applying mass production to his inventions.  Another was the creation of the first industrial research lab.  Although Edison wasn’t known for being the best employer in terms of his treatment of people, his insight on the meaning of work was keen.

“Being busy does not always mean real work.  The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence and honest purpose, as well as perspiration.  Seeming to do is not doing.”
