2008=More of Same

Please don’t think that the immediately preceding post was an endorsement or non-endorsement, because it wasn’t.  It was just the expression of despair.

While Obama himself is making race an issue–something he promised not to do–McCain is backing away from much needed immigration refom, changing his position on the use of torture, and reversing his stand on offshore drilling for oil.  Who knows what either one of them believes

Once again, we have two candidates who’ll promise anything and flip-flop on everything.  I feel a little stupid.  I thought this time, we had two candidates who were different– who’d tell us what they stand for and stick with it.  The last candidate to do that was Barry Goldwater in 1964.  He won only five states and lost in one of the biggest landslides in presidential politics.

Since then, we’ve been stuck with candidates who tell you what they believe after seeing the latest polls, campaign from the center, and have the backbones of a gentle wind.  Maybe as I get older, I am getting smarter.  I’ve figured it out this time earlier than usual.  It won’t matter which candidate is elected.  All he’ll do is try to get reelected.

Can you imagine how employees feel when their managers and supervisors don’t mean what they say, tell them one thing and do something else, immediately back away from a position if they get a little pressure from the powers that be, or think employees are so stupid that they don’t remember what was promised to them?  When it comes to the workplace, employees need leaders they can count on.  That’s pretty much all they ask for.  Encourage your bosses to do their best to live up to the most reasonable of expectations from their employees.

As far as the election is concerned, choosing the lesser of two evils will be tough this year, but it always is.
