Simic on the Way We See Things

At an early age,  most of us were told that our outlook on life makes a big difference.  It’s sort of the glass half full, half empty thing.

Charles Simic, who was named the 15th Poet Laureate to the Library of Congress in 2007, defines a poem in a way that underscores the importance of our point of view.  His definition is worth contemplating.  Read it several times, and think about it.  Every so often, substitute “job” for “poem.”

“A poem is an invitation to a voyage.  As in life, we travel to see fresh sights.”
