New Fair Pay Act?

Update: Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act revived in 2009

In 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court decided Ledbetter v. Goodyear, which significantly narrowed, in the opinion of some, the period of time an employee has to complain about discriminatory pay.  Proposed legislation (Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act) to reverse the Supreme Court’s decision is gaining a bit of steam.  President Bush has vowed to veto the legislation (which has already been passed by the House of Representatives), and it seems unlikely that an override of his veto is possible at present.  In fact, Republicans in the Senate have just thwarted a vote on this proposal.

This legislation will undoubtedly become a campaign issue.  Clinton and Obama are strong supporters of this proposal.  McCain hasn’t weighed in with his opinion yet.

Stay tuned.  This isn’t going away.
