Buckley on Idealism and Reality

William F. Buckley, Jr. died last week.  He was a scourge to liberals, a hero to conservatives.  It seems to me that regardless of one’s political or philosophical persuasion, Buckley has to be viewed as one of the great thinkers and communicators of our time.  He was also funny, which made his acerbic put-downs not only bearable but entertaining.  I found a quote from him that often rings true in the world of business, human resources, law and life.

“Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.”

  1. What an appropriate quote for the man whose self-procaimed mission was to “stand athwart history yelling ‘stop.’”
