Another Look at Presidential Politics–Predictions for the Workplace–McCain on FOREWARN Act

I have been unable to find anything concerning Senator McCain’s position on this proposed legislation. However, the record seems to indicate that he was a reluctant supporter of the WARN Act, so I think it’s safe to assume that he wouldn’t support the FOREWARN Act.

The WARN Act was part of a bigger trade bill, which President Reagan successfully vetoed. The WARN Act was then introduced as a separate piece of legislation. Although Reagan didn’t like the bill, after it passed the Senate 72-23 (with McCain voting yes), he decided to let it become law without his signature.

McCain’s general stance of not favoring government interference with business also makes it unlikely that he would support the FOREWARN Act.
