The Age Issue
I’ve predicted several times on this blog that the big employment issue for the coming decade will be age discrimination. In fact, one of my earliest posts tackled that subject. I will continue to talk about it.
Recent posts have tied the race issue in the presidential campaign to the race issue in the workplace and employment law. As an article in Slate Magazine notes, race isn’t the only issue at play in the campaign. There’s the issue of age as well. This article focuses on the age difference between Clinton and Obama. The age issue is also interjected into the campaign by McCain, who will be the oldest person to be nominated for the presidency, assuming that he gets the Republican nomination.
Will age end up being the big issue of this campaign like I say it will be the big issue for employment law? We’ll see. This presidential campaign may teach us more employment lessons than any campaign has ever taught us, and we still have nine months to go.
