Spygate: Football’s Version of the Clemens Saga?

Last week, I did a post called “Rocket Man,” dealing with the Congressional hearing at which Roger Clemens testified.  I tried to suggest a few things that might help an executive or other big wig deal a little better than Clemens did with the kind of situation he found himself in–which was being accused by a former employee of something unlawful or unethical.  Apparently, New England Patriots’ Coach Bill Belichick didn’t read my post.

Belichick and the Patriots were fined for taping signals given by New York Jets’ coaches during an early game this past season between the Jets and Patriots.  This taping incident was given the name Spygate soon after it came to light.  Later, a former Patriots employee said he was told to tape the practice of the St. Louis Rams before Super Bowl 36, which I believe was the first Super Bowl won by the Patriots under Belichick.

A Congressional investigation has been threatened as a result of the National Football League’s destruction of the evidence of the Jets taping, with the accusation about the Rams taping by the former Patriots employee adding fuel to the fire.  (Are you following this?)  Belichick and others are now talking to the press and no telling who else.  Will Belichick be called “redux man”?  We’ll see how this plays out.  Check out an article in the Boston Globe.
